About Green Highland Park

Green Highland Park is a home-grown effort to create a green and sustainable community. That means planning and providing for a healthy environment, economy, and society. It means ensuring that our quality of life is preserved, for us, and for our kids and their kids. It means thinking globally, but acting locally.

Our lifestyle in Highland Park and across the United States uses lots of energy and natural resources.  When we drive to work and school every day or turn on the computers and lights in our homes, we use up important non-renewable resources like oil and natural gas, unlike renewable power sources like wind or solar power.  This leads to the creation of harmful pollutants in our environment and waste that must be thrown away and disposed of in landfills.

But we can choose to live in ways that help the environment and make our community stronger!  By taking control of our town’s future and planning for sustainable development, we can help conserve the natural resources we enjoy today while improving our community for future generations.

As part of the “greening” of Highland Park, the Green Community Plan was created through the joint efforts of the Green Community Working Group and the New Jersey Sustainable State Institute (NJSSI).
